Note Taker

To become a note taker, complete the Note Taker Contract and submit it to the Office of Academic Affairs, Kearney 202. Tutoring is a paid, non work-study position, therefore anyone who meets the qualifications may apply.

Note Taker Qualifications

  • Cumulative GPA of at least 3.0

Note Taker Responsibilities

  • Bring the completed Work Assignment form and 2 forms of ID to the Payroll Office (Kearney 213).  The acceptable types of identification are described on the back of the Work Assignment form.
  • Take legible notes during each class session and label with the date.
  • Contact the student for whom you will be taking notes to introduce myself and to discuss how often they wish to have the notes available each week.  At a minimum, you will copy the notes once each week, after the last class for the week.
  • Go to the Library Circulation Desk to introduce yourself as a note taker hired by O.A.A. and ask for the code number to use the copier.
  • Make a photocopy of the notes and return the notes to the Circulation Desk. Ask the desk attendant for the student’s folder, put the notes in the folder and sign/date the form on the inside of the folder.
  • Check with the student to insure that the notes are legible, clear etc.
  • If the note taker is absent from class, it is the note taker's responsibility to obtain the notes for that day and to prepare a copy for the student.
  • If the student is absent from class for more than 2 consecutive days, the note taker will contact O.A.A. to confirm that the student is still enrolled in the class.

A note taker's position will be terminated if either the student or the note taker withdraw from the course, and/or if the note taker fail to comply with the requirements outlined above.

Note takers are paid per course, not per the number of students in the course.

Note takers are paid in two checks, distributed at mid-semester and at the end of the semester according to the following scale:

  • 2 payments of $100.00 (total $200.) for each 3 or 4 credit course
  • 2 payments of $80.00 (total $160.) for each 2 credit course
  • 2 payments of $60.00 (total $120.) for each 1 credit course

If the note taking assignment is terminated before the end of the semester, the pay will be prorated accordingly.
