To make the most of this information, schedule an appointment (385-8050) with a Career Counselor to discuss your particular questions.

What can I do with my major?

With a liberal arts education, the opportunities within your major are endless. Consider the classes you have taken and ask yourself: what did I enjoy most about my classes?  What did I enjoy least?  Talk to faculty members about what other students have done with their majors. Review "What can I do with a major in..." to see areas, employers, and strategies for many liberal arts, sciences & technical majors. Speak with a Career Counselor about the CARD System to find alumni and the career fields they have chosen. Visit the online resource page to find online career resources, such as the Occupational Outlook Handbook and Liberal Arts Career Network to explore career fields and positions.

Should I complete a career assessment?

Fisher offers both the Strong Interest Inventory and Myers-Briggs Type Indicator and other assessments for students and alumni at various places in their academic/career paths. These assessments do not tell you what you should do, but do bring to the surface possible career interests and preferences.  To determine if you should take an assessment, meet with a Career Counselor.

What is an internship?

Internships are a great way to “test drive” certain career pathways.  In conjunction with many academic departments, the Career Center supports the sourcing of student internships to provide practical work experience, build credentials and provide affirmation of career path choices. The Career Center provides a centralized location of internship postings in the JobZone.  Internships done for credit must be approved through your academic advisor.

Can I shadow a professional?

The CARD System houses over 800 alumni that have volunteered to help students with a variety of career related services, including job shadowing which is a great way to begin networking while learning about a field of interest. The CARD System is a password protected database and all students must have their resumes reviewed by the Career Center before obtaining a password.

How can I explore different careers?

Many tools are available for you to explore different careers.  In addition to job shadowing (above) and networking, there are online resources to help facilitate your research. In addition to these sources, be sure to discuss your career interests with faculty members.
