Who do I network with? What do I use?
Networking happens everyday: at garage sales, at the gym, even in the classroom! St. John Fisher College has a database, the CARD System that contains over 700 alumni volunteers willing to assist students with a host of career related inquiries.
Why network?
One of the best, if not the best, ways to conduct a job or internship search and/or find out about a profession is to network. Networking provides you with the opportunity to meet people in fields of interest and to stay in the forefront of someone’s mind when they or some other contact may be in a position to hire.
CARD System volunteers are excited to assist students with: Resumes, Mock Interviews, Networking, Cover Letters, Industry Research, Internships, Company Research, Professional Contacts, Full Time Opportunities and Relocation Opportunities.
Where?
Sign up by visiting the Career Center (ground floor of Lavery Library). All students must have a resume reviewed by the Career Center before receiving their password.
When?
It’s never too early to begin networking. In fact, you probably already have a great network to start from. Fill out the 3 Minutes 30 Contacts form and see how many people you already have in your network.
Remember…
When you make a contact with someone, you never know what contacts they may have to assist you, so you want all communiqués to be professional. Review our Informational Interviewing and Networking Tips pamphlet for details on how to make the most of your network.
