Initiated in 1996, the Service Scholars Program has been recognized for the second time by the John Templeton Foundation as an exemplary program in the Volunteer Service Programs category - one of sixty programs so designated in the nation. The Templeton Foundation also named St. John Fisher College to the 1999-2000 Honor Roll for Character-Building Colleges.
This places Fisher among a select group of colleges and universities in the United States recognized by the Foundation for innovation and leadership in promoting character development among their students. The Service Scholars Program embodies the spirit of community and caring that is the hallmark of the Fisher experience. 36 Scholarships are awarded annually to high school seniors who exhibit outstanding community service through activities in their schools, places of worship, and community agencies.
The Service Scholars Program has been established to recognize and reward high school seniors who demonstrate an ongoing interest in serving the needs of others through a commitment to community service. Recipients will be high school seniors who plan to attend St. John Fisher College in the Fall of 2006 directly out of high school.
