Freshman and transfer student Kayla Hogan is now a Communication/Journalism major from Auburn, N.Y. She started off at Niagara University as a pharmacy major because at home she works at Tops pharmacy.
Hogan transferred from Niagara University this past semester.
“I changed my mind and decided I wanted to get into broadcasting, and Fisher has a strong Communication program,” Hogan said. “It’s also closer to home so I can go home and see my family on the weekends.”
As soon as she got here, she got involved with Cardinal TV and loves doing the Fisher News. “It’s a great way to meet people and it’s great experience for what I may want to do in the future,” Hogan said.
The only thing Hogan found to be a little challenging was meeting new people.
“It’s harder to come in in the middle of the year instead of at the beginning of one,” Hogan said. “Especially being put into Keough, an upperclassman dorm, was awkward because there aren’t any other freshmen there really, but everyone is still really nice.”
Hogan plans on transferring to Cayuga Community College so she can work and take core classes at the same time.
“I’m going to miss Keough, it’s a really nice place to live, and it’s so different from Niagara,” Hogan said. “It’s actually quiet in here, and you can get your work done, whereas at Niagara everyone loved to run around all hours of the night and you can’t get anything done.”
For fun, Hogan loves to take advantage of the Eastview Mall since it’s so close to the campus. “I love to shop, and whenever I can I also love to go and workout at the Pittsford ‘Y,’ because the gym here is always way too crowded,” Hogan said.
“I’m going to miss Fisher but all of my friends go to CCC back home where I am transferring to, so I’m excited to go home and hang out with them again.”
