As a freshman, walking into an upper-level honors class can be quite intimidating However, one friendly face stood out to me as I apprehensively chose where to sit. I would soon find that the friendly face belonged to Megan MacDonald (“like the farm” she said), a sophomore psychology major with a newly required English minor, although when she was younger she “spelled of with a ‘v.’
After a little Facebook research, I decided to give her a visit at her current residence in Dorsey.
Every inquiry ended with a hilarious story or encounter Megan and her crew has had over the past year and a half. “We laugh a lot – we always have a good time,” MacDonald said. “My occupation is to make people have a good time.”
MacDonald has a second job at the school bookstore, and also sings and plays the piano. She is passing on her musical wisdom as well; “She’s teaching me the piano,” her roommate Jen Springett said. She truly has a passion for music, enjoying everything from Rascal Flats to Wicked, her favorite Broadway musical.
Her parents grew up in Boston which gives MacDonald a unique pronunciation of words, according to her friends. “She says ‘draw’ instead of ‘drawer’” Jen Springett said. When asked what was most unique about MacDonald, her friends said her laugh. “She laughs at everything, really loud” saidSpringett. “She also has freakishly small hands and toes!” Jen Driessen added.
MacDonald replied with “Okay, that’s enough of that.” They all chuckle, allowing me exposure to her infamous laugh.
MacDonald was born in Normal, Ill. which she says “is ironic because I’m not normal.”
She has lived in Massachusetts, Maryland, and Texas before settling at Oswego, New York, where they have a large music program. However, her favorite place to live was Massachusetts; “I loved Massachusetts; they had such good weather. It doesn’t snow as much there, but when they do have bad weather it’s serious like hurricanes,” MacDonald said.
MacDonald ended up at Fisher because of its “aesthetically pleasing value.”
