Looking back at the Runway of Fisher

Before school lets out here at Fisher, we can take a look back and see what has been so popular throughout the year - what was worn, carried and in style. Each season not only brings in new weather, but a new fashion style as well. Whether it is big sunglasses or Ugg boots, each has been made its own fashion statement, with many student opinions.
One accessory that has been seen around campus the most this year was the cotton Vera Bradley bags. Known for their soft material and wild colors, these bags can have many different purposes.
Kate Morrell, a freshman said, “You basically see them wherever you go. So many people have them too that you just kind of want one as well.”
This line of accessories has been around since the late 80s, and are become more frequent around college campuses, with not only professors but especially students as well. The line includes totes (small and large) handbags, cosmetic bags, messenger bags, pocket wallets and even luggage size bags.
“I have two Vera Bradley bags,” said Emily Tschernjawski, a freshman. “One is the tote size, which I use to carry my books around campus, and the other is bucket tote that I use as a purse.”
The larger bags are known for having enough space to carry whatever is needed.  What’s best is that there is a large selection of different sizes. The bags are durable as well and can be washed as long as the instructions are followed.
“I feel they won’t go out of style because they are sort of classic, and can basically go with any event - if it is dressy or casual. You can also get matching sets of different sizes, such as a wallet and mini purse,” said Tschernjawski.
What the bags are most known for are their vibrant colors. With names like Java Blue, Tropical Silk and Sherbet, the bags will brighten any outfit. Ashley Kravitz who owns a Vera tote bag as well said the patterns are the best part. “It doesn’t have to match any specific outfit, the colors in the bag is what makes it so likeable.”
Along with the colors the price of the bags can range from $25 to $60. The Vera Bradley line also sells stationary, ribbon boards and note cards, which can be found at Crabtree and Evelyn or also Jenss.
During the winter months it was popular to see Ugg boots being worn by so many people.   Ugg boots are boots that can cover half the calf muscle or go as high to cover the entire lower leg. Popular in many different colors, these boots started the trend of rolling up jeans when wearing them to eventually wearing them with skirts.
“If you are wearing tighter jeans, the boots tend is stick out,” said freshman Abby Ballou. “By rolling them up this doesn’t happen. Plus, if your wearing boots that are more detailed and extravagant, you probably want to have that seen.”
Erika Young agrees that showing them off is the whole point. “My boots have embroidering on them and a lot of times the colors in it can match what I am wearing.”
By rolling up the jeans and wearing boots it also prevents the bottom of jeans and pants from getting wet in the snow, which is not only a fashion statement but common sense. The boots can be bought from brand name companies at $200 or they could be found at Target for $25.
Along with these, gaucho pants became popular as well. To the confused (or mainly to the guys), these are capri pants that are loosely fitted to more of a baggy look. The best thing with this sort of pant is that it can be worn to be dressed up or dressed down. By wearing a high heeled shoe or a fancy top, these can be worn for presentations or dates.

There are still many more fashion styles that were seen throughout the year, such as dangly earrings, big sunglasses and the popped collar; however it can be almost certain to say that flip flops will never stop being a student’s favorite shoe to wear on campus.
