Four local bands rocked out Saturday, Nov. 4, at 6 p.m. in the Campus Center during the third annual Battle of the Bands. The 2007 Teddi Dance for Love Committee hosted the event along with co-sponsors, the Student Activities Board (SAB) and Resident Student Association (RSA).

First place went to the band Endo, who won two hours of recording time at Dynamic Recording Studio, a $75 gift certificate to the Guitar Center and a spot to play at the 25th annual Teddi Dance for Love. Second place went to Ryan Dilmore, who won a $50 gift certificate to the Guitar Center. MusicFace and October Nites also performed Saturday night.

The Teddi Committee raffled off prizes throughout the evening such as an iPod nano, iPod shuffles, DVDs and iTunes gift cards.

Additionally, the Teddi Committee and Students with a Vision (SWAV) held a date auction, which auctioned students off to audience members in between sets. The daters received special center-stage tables, drinks and fruit-kabobs. Students sold for prices ranging from $12 to $20 a date.

The Teddi Dance for Love Committee started Battle of the Bands three years ago as a fundraiser for Camp Good Days and Special Times. Senior Ashley Hodnett, captain of the Teddi Special Events Subcommittee, from Fillmore, N.Y., organized this year’s Battle with her co-captain Steven Tinker, a senior from Poland, N.Y.

According to Hodnett, the Committee plans the Teddi Dance for Love throughout the year, which takes place Feb. 16 to 17, along with other Teddi charity events.

This year’s Battle of the Bands drew in more than $600, all of which will be presented to Camp Good Days at the end of this year’s 24-hour dance marathon.

This year, Hodnett and Tinker were in charge of finding the bands for the battle.

“We were able to find bands from many people on campus,” Hodnett said. “Steve and I asked around to many of our friends and mentioned it in our classes. We also put an ad on the radio station at St. Bonaventure University [88.3 The Buzz] and put word out on Facebook.”

Several of the bands that responded already had prior engagements for Nov. 4, according to Hodnett. However, that was the weekend that worked best for the Teddi Committee. “Other than [the scheduling conflicts], everything in the planning process went very smoothly,” Hodnett said.

Teddi Committee co-chair Mary Ciesinski, a junior from San Jose, Calif., was pleased with how the battle raged on.

“It went well. We had a good crowd and a great atmosphere. We also had some great artists who will be great additions to Teddi,” Ciesinski said.

Besides the battle, the Committee has been busy actively recruiting people for the Teddi Dance. On Nov. 8, it held “100 Days,” an all-day event encouraging people to sign up 100 days before the dance.
