Annual Fisherpalooza to bring music to campus
The sophomore class of 2008 has been working hard to put together this year’s Fisherpalooza, which will take place Saturday, April 22 from 2 to 8 p.m. on Lavery Lawn.
“We have put a lot of planning into this,” said sophomore class president Danielle Valerino. “We started planning this last spring and have been planning for over a year now.”
The sophomore class officers booked several bands for the event, including country vocalist Ciara Lynn, IY (a band from Cornell, N.Y.), Simple Life, and a Dave Matthews-type band called The Chris Lizzie Band.
This year’s Fisherpalooza has a carnival theme. Students can look forward to such attractions as a balloon dart game, a dunking tank and an inflatable contraption called The Equalizer.
The proceeds from the dunking tank will go toward the Teddi Dance Committee. Students and professors will be able to sign up if they want to participate, and students will be able to put money in jars to decide which volunteers get to be dunked.
There will also be a dating auction sponsored by Circle K. The auction will take place in between band performances.
Students will also have the option to eat a barbeque-style meal, compliments of Bon Appétit. Students can use their meal plans for the event’s picnic.
There will be over $700 in prizes, including an Xbox 360. Students will have the chance to win Fisherpalooza key chains.
There will also be over 100 free T-shirts that will be given away to students who come to the event.
While many students do not seem to have a positive feeling towards Fisherpalooza, Valerino hopes to still attract a decent-sized crowd.
“We do not really want people to assume things or base this Fisherpalooza on past Fisherpaloozas,” said Valerino.
“It is a time to take a break from studying, away from the books, and just come have some fun. Come hang out with your friends since this is almost the last time before summer for a big event on campus,” Valerino said.
Other groups that have helped sponsor this year’s Fisherpalooza include SGA’s Finance Committee, SAB and RSA.
