Choir ends year on a 'Gospelicious' note The St. John Fisher Gospel Choir performed its last concert of the year April 8 in Coleman Chapel. The spring semester equivalent of its fall concert Gospelicious, II Gospelicious brought music and praise together through inspirational songs and uplifting music. During her opening remarks to the audience, Dr. Arlette Miller-Smith described the event simply as “delicious, but it is also the Gospel, so it is Gospelicious.” The performance also included the vocal talents of the AME Young Adult Choir. The entire concert was under the direction of Carey Smith, Jr. “Gospel choir is fun. There is always something new to sing about and talk about and it is the only place that you can go and get a sincere hug from a sincere friend,” said sophomore Lindsay Snider. Chastity Johnson, the president of the choir, was very happy with the turnout for the event. The senior said she enjoyed seeing the same faces coming back to events and showing their support. The concert marked the end of a highly involved school year for the club, having performed at the Day of Celebration, the Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration, the Teddi Dance for Love and at the Circle of Friends program. Members of the Gospel Choir were also busy fundraising, which they began in December. With the money they earned, the group invested in new red T-shirts with the Choir’s logo. The Choir rehearses every Monday night from 9:30 to 11 p.m. Many students, faculty, alumni and family came out to show their support for the group’s final concert. Clapping along with the rest of their family to show support for their older sister were Destiny Johnson, 6, and Dasia Johnson, 8. “It was really good,” said Dasia. “My favorite singer is my sister.” By Chris Fanning cdf2408@sjfc.edu |
