Violence in Rochester

-The murder rate last year was 25.41 homicides per 100,000 people

-Rochester was the 2005 murder capital of New York State, surpassing New York City in homicides

-54 killings occurred in 2005

-8 of the 54 killed were children

-Guns killed 39 people in 2005

-An average of 50 murders occur per year in the city

-2003 was the highest year for murders in Rochester with 57 deaths
