Well, it’s that time of year again. The Super Bowl.
Oh boy.
Once again, I get to watch another team that’s not the Buffalo Bills win the big game. Yes. It’ll be fun, I tell myself. Don’t worry, there’s always next year, I tell myself. You’re a massive liar, I tell myself. I agree, I tell myself.
Unfortunately for me, when the Bills went on their four year domination of the AFC Championship, I was too young to actually value the uniqueness of what they were doing. Four conference championships in a row. No other team has ever done that.
To make myself feel better about this fact, I’ve come to the conclusion that the Buffalo Bills, despite the merger between the AFC and NFC in 1970, don’t recognize the Super Bowl and only consider the AFC championship as the true big game. This would explain how they managed to lose four Super Bowls in a row – they don’t care.
Take that NFL. You think you’re so cool, you think you’re the national pastime now. Hah. The Buffalo Bills disagree. They’re perfectly content with their AFC, thank you very much. They don’t need that fancy other conference.
Giants? Puh. Redskins? Meh. Cowboys? Not our team.
Scott Norwood, you’re off the hook. That missed field goal only came in an exhibition game. Who cares if millions of people were watching, Bills fans weren’t. We locked up our national championship a few weeks before by beating the Raiders.
Maybe someday, the Bills will play the NFC in a championship game. Maybe. For now though, we’re just too good for the senior circuit. Ralph Wilson is a classy guy – he doesn’t want to embarrass any of the teams from that conference in some kind of bowl game.
In fact, he doesn’t even want to embarrass any of the other teams in the NFL. Everyone knows that the Bills realized they were way too good for the rest of the league years ago. Buffalo only recognizes teams that play in Buffalo. Which makes the Bills the undefeated Buffalo champions for decades.
New England may have won three NFL championships in four years but the Bills have won 47 Buffalo championships in 47 years. We’re just too humble to put those championship banners up at the Ralph. Wouldn’t want to show up the other teams who visit.
I’m looking forward to another march to the championship next year. Hopefully the Bills can make it 48 in a row. It got a little nerve-racking for a couple of years when the Buffalo Destroyers were playing in the Arena League. Good thing they left town though. Must’ve realized just how amazing the Bills are.
Don’t tell me I’m crazy, people. I obviously know what I’m talking about here. As a life-long Buffalo Bills fan I’ve learned the ways of the game. I’ve learned how dominant the Bills are. I’ve learned how to get to sleep without crying.
