Exercise etiquette in laundry room Megan Baker I love living with my Fisher comrades, but there is one thing we need to have a better understanding of: laundry room etiquette. I thought about it and I came up with a few good ground rules that will make for a happy laundry room environment. First off, don’t steal stuff. It’s just not cool. The laundry room is supposed to be a safe haven for our clothes, not a donation center. Keep in mind, however, if you leave something there for at least a week, it’s considered fair game. Second, don’t throw in a load if you plan on leaving campus for a few hours. The washers here on average take about 30 minutes or maybe even less, so do us all a favor and wait until after you wash your clothes to take off. Third, don’t take people’s stuff out of the washer unless there is a dryer available or if they have a hamper with their clothes. You can put the clothes in the dryer, but DO NOT under any circumstances turn it on. Some of us wash things that cannot be put into the dryer. If you absolutely have to take someone’s stuff out of the washer or dryer, it is also acceptable to put the clothes in his or her hamper. If there’s no hamper, I suppose you can put it on top of the dryer if it is a dire emergency; otherwise, leave it be. The one thing that is an absolute cardinal rule is do not take someone’s stuff out of the dryer if it’s not dry yet. You can simply feel their clothes a little bit (please stay away from the underwear) to detect whether or not it is dry. If it is not dry, leave it in there. Would you like it if someone took your damp clothes out of the dryer? I think not! If we can all live by these guidelines, I think we will all have a very happy semester |
