Courier bids fond farewell

The 2005-2006 school year was one of change and
prosperity for St. John Fisher College.
A new president was named and inaugurated; ground was broken and construction began on the School of Pharmacy; the largest donation in the history of the College, $8 million, was attained for the new School of Nursing.
However at the end of this year, Fisher will be losing a small but significant part of its family.
Cardinal Courier Adviser Lisa Murphy is heading off to Medaille College in the fall to continue her mission of
excellence and achievement.
In the fall of 2002, a force of nature breezed on to this
campus, and the Fisher
community hasn’t been the same since.
Lisa came in to a staff of 12 students, and is leaving a staff of over 60.
She has increased
advertising revenue to an all-time high of over $21,000 this year.
She has gone  well beyond the call of duty to attain the necessary resources for not only the newspaper, but for the Communication/Journalism department as well.
However, the title of ‘media adviser’ only describes a small portion of what Lisa does.
She is a constant source of knowledge for anyone looking to find an internship, a career path or even a summer job.
She is a breath of fresh air among the dizziness that is academia at times.
She is a leader, quietly directing from behind the scenes without stepping on toes, yet always letting her
students shine.
She has mastered the
difficult task of relating to
college kids, understanding that the way to their hearts is through listening, maintaining a good sense of humor, and of course, pizza and chocolate.
She is our friend.
So many who have come and gone are forever changed because of the impact Lisa has had on their lives.
Good leaders are a reflection of those who follow them.  Undoubtedly, future Courier staff members, and advisers, will build on the foundation laid by Lisa.

Good luck with everything, Murph.  We will miss you.
