Constitution

The name of this
organization shall be the Educational Technology Club, hereinafter referred to
as the Educ Tech Club of Saint John Fisher College.
The purpose of the Educ Tech
Club of Saint John Fisher College will be to unite the students and faculty in
the field of educational technology.
This will serve to promote better communication and enrich the student’s
knowledge and experience. The club will
strive to promote high professional standards, and to expose members to
available opportunities while preparing them for future employment.
A. The Educ Tech Club is open to benefit all students; especially those interested in pursuing a career in the field of education. Membership is based on the above criteria, regardless of race, color, religion, sex, age, or disability.
B. If a member should neglect to actively participate, or shall a disciplinary action jeopardize the name of the club and/or St. John Fisher College he/she shall be eliminate on 2/3 majority vote of the executive board.
The leadership within the
club shall consist of a five (5) to six (6) member committee. Five of the positions shall be President,
Co-President, Vice President, Secretary and Treasurer. The President and Co-President positions
cannot be filled solely by seniors; however, the other positions shall be open
to all class levels. One (1) or more
member(s) of the Mathematical & Computing Sciences faculty will serve as
the advisor(s) to this committee and to the members of the club.
A.
Elections will be held by the last week of February
during the spring semester. Newly
elected officers are required to shadow current officers so that they will understand
their duties when they take their positions at the start of the following fall
semester.
B.
The positions within the committee shall be filled by
a simple majority vote taken from a list of nominees. The President/ Co-president will be elected through
a majority vote within the committee. If
no majority rules, the voting will be opened to the general members.
C.
All positions in leadership will be up for re-election
every spring semester.
D.
Should a leadership seat become vacant, the committee
shall elect a new chairperson from its remaining members.
Section 2:
Functions and Powers
A.
The committee shall:
1.
Work together in organizing the requests of the club,
especially the planning of trips, tours, the collection of useful information,
and the recruitment of guest speakers.
2.
Accept responsibility for specific duties.
3.
Organize special committees when necessary.
4.
Distribute funds only to accomplish the objectives and
purposes specified in this constitution.
5.
By the end of the spring semester, the committee must
have an event planned for the following fall semester, either for September or
early October. This early event is
imperative, as it is necessary to acquire freshman interest early in the
semester.
B.
The President/ Co-President shall:
1.
Assign specific duties, when necessary, to the members
of the committee or club.
2.
Make the final decision when no majority rules.
3.
Call for the necessary meetings and preside at those
meetings unless otherwise specified.
4.
Bring it to the club’s attention when one or more
members are not fulfilling their responsibilities and take the proper actions
to correct the situation.
5.
Attend COP meetings.
If the President or Co-president cannot attend a meeting, it is their
responsibility to appoint another committee member to attend.
C.
The Vice President shall:
1.
Fulfill the responsibilities of the president/
co-president if they are unable to do their duties.
2.
Have an active role in organizing meetings and events.
D.
The Treasurer shall:
1.
Maintain an organized record of finances.
2.
Have an active role in organizing meetings and events.
E.
The Secretary shall:
1.
Record and distribute minutes to all members.
2.
Be responsible for Public Relations, if in the case of
an inability to do this they may appoint a person capable of completing this task.
3.
Take attendance of club members at meetings and
special events.
F.
The general members shall:
1.
Accept responsibility for voicing their opinions and
expectations of and from the club.
2.
Decide by a majority vote all areas within the club
that call for agreement, excluding the position of the President/ Co-President.
3.
Vote to fill vacancies that may occur throughout the
year.
4.
Must attend at least one club-sponsored event per
semester.
5.
Must attend all club meetings.
Article
V: Meetings
A.
Meetings shall occur once a month, unless a need
arises for additional meetings.
B.
All members of the committee must attend all meetings,
and at least 2/3 of active members must be present to conduct business.
Article VI:
Finances
A.
Treasurer is
responsible for handling the budget.
B.
Only the President/Co-President or Treasurer is
authorized to request club funds
Article
VII: Committees
A.
Committees
shall be formed as needed to coordinate special events which have been decided on upon the club.
B.
Committees will be formed by volunteers; if a lack of
volunteers the Vice President will appoint members to form the committee.
Article VIII: Amendments
A.
Any members of the club may propose an amendment.
B.
Any Amendment proposed must be passed by majority vote
in the committee before it is presented to the faculty advisor(s).
C.
Once accepted by the faculty advisor(s), a two-thirds
majority vote of the entire club shall be necessary for the approval of
amendments to the constitution.
Article IX:
Ratification
A.
This constitution as it presently reads becomes
effective by a consensus vote of the Educ Tech Club executive committee.
