Preferred Lender List Selection Process In February 2008, a Request for Information (RFI) was sent to 18 major lending institutions requesting detailed information on their loan products and services. The information received was reviewed by the SJFC Financial Aid Office staff. The goal was to select the best loan products to recommend to students and parents. Key criterion: cost of the loan (determined by loan analyzer software), borrower benefits, customer service, approval rate, and default rate. In March 2008, all lender participants were notified of the results of the survey analysis. As a result, SJFC currently has two Preferred Lender lists; one for federal loan programs (Stafford, PLUS and Graduate PLUS) and one for private/alternative loan programs. It is St. John Fisher College’s policy to include at least 3 lending institutions on each list. The Financial Aid office will not discourage, refuse, or delay processing of a loan from a lender not on a preferred list. When a student accepts the Federal Stafford Loan, Parent PLUS Loan or Graduate PLUS Loan on Fishrnet, we will process the loan through New York State Higher Education Services Corporation (HESC) or their selected guarantee agency. Preferred Lender Lists are updated every year through this process. If you have any questions about this policy or any of the loan processes at St. John Fisher College, please call the Financial Aid Office at (585) 385-8042. |
