Financial Aid Checkist New Undergraduate Students

Apply to colleges.
- Start a financial aid folder to retain copies of tax returns and aid documents.
- Obtain a Personal Identification Number (PIN) from the U.S. Department of Education at www.pin.ed.gov.
- Complete and submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) at www.fafsa.ed.gov or via paper application. St. John Fisher College’s priority deadline is February 15th.
- Complete the Express TAP application (ETA) online following the FAFSA, or the paper application mailed to you, or at www.tapweb.org.
- Review your Student Aid Report (SAR) for accuracy. If necessary, follow directions on your SAR to correct inaccurate items.
- Investigate private resources of financial aid for college. Check your school, local library, and online at www.fastweb.com or www.collegeboard.com.
- Receive acceptance letters from colleges.
- Receive your financial aid award notice listing estimated aid eligibility. Review any accompanying information and contact the financial aid office with any questions.
- Fulfill admissions/housing deposits by college deadline.
- Promptly respond to any school requests for additional information or documents, such as copies of federal tax returns.
- Notify your financial aid office of any outside scholarships, grants, or other resources you have received or will receive.
- Accept financial aid offered on FishRNet.
- Complete entrance counseling for any loan you have accepted.
- Complete your promissory note for any loan you have accepted.
- Be alert to any billing notices and payment information provided by the Bursar’s Office.
- Explore placement procedures and job availability if awarded work-study or find out about other student employment opportunities available in your campus community.
