Sponsors First Generation Scholarship Program

The Constantino Family: Fannie, Elaine & Charlie Constantino

The Fannie and Sam Constantino First Generation Scholarship Program is a unique opportunity at St. John Fisher College. It is designed to provide financial and academic assistance to high school students who exhibit a high degree of motivation and academic potential and are the first in their immediate families to attend a post-secondary institution*.

Since its founding in 1948, St. John Fisher College has enrolled a high percentage of first generation college students. On the occasion of its 50th anniversary in 1998, the College renewed its commitment to today's first generation students by creating this scholarship program.

Recipients of the First Generation Scholarship will enroll as freshmen at St. John Fisher College, directly out of high school. The first-year program of coursework and advising at the College is ideally suited to meet the needs of first generation students. In this program, students work with a Faculty Mentor, enroll in a learning community, and participate in an academic mentoring program in the Rochester community. Recipients of the First Generation Scholarship will receive yearly awards ranging from $4,500 to one-third of resident student costs. The program potential is 36 students per class, for a total of 144 students per year.

To qualify, students must be nominated by a teacher, counselor, employer, clergy member, or community leader. Call the St. John Fisher College Office of Admissions at (585) 385-8064 (in Rochester) or Sally Vaughan, Director of Community Service & First Generation Scholarship Program Coordinator at (585) 385-5209 or (800) 444-4640 for more information or to request a nomination package.
